Ready to Welcome 2010!!

2009 has been an amazing year for us. We've been privileged to meet and provide service to so many wonderful clients.

Our move in April to 509 W. Poinsett Street has proven to have been a good decision. We do love our home away from home. If you haven't already stopped by, come and see us sometime. It is truly a beautiful place.

As we ready ourselves for 2010, we eagerly await the new clients that will come. We sincerely appreciate all of the support we have received from our friends and community. Greer truly is a wonderful place to call home.

Happy New Years!

I Remember.

Has it really been 8 years? It seem so vivid still in my mind. September 11, 2001 was a memorable day to many. Where were you? Do you remember the feeling?

I, Becky Pickett, was in the Boston Hilton located across from the Boston Logan Airport. I was there leading a group meeting. All of a sudden, cell phones started ringing, people started getting up and walking out of the room. Then one of the group leaders had the hotel put CNN on the big screen - that was about the time the second plane hit the tower. There was a complete feeling of numbness. Could this really be happening? Could it possibly be a terror attack? As the day unfolded, we couldn't help but notice a stillness in the air. After canceling the meetings, we all begin trying to figure out what to do next. I remember just wanting to talk to my husband and Mom who had my beautiful little girls. The phone lines were jammed, so the wait seemed endless. A large group of us huddled outside the conference room, held hands, and prayed.

Then we heard that all air traffic had been stopped. Stopping air traffic in the US? Now, how were we getting home? My hotel room became a central location for my friends and coworkers. It overlooked one large section of the airport. We watched as police and bomb dogs searched each plane and closed and secured each jetway. I just remember feeling so helpless and just wanted to "go home". Finally, a signal on my cell phone. I got my husband who was in tears trying to find me. I told him we were OK and I was going to get home some way, some how very soon.

The hotel later that afternoon turned in to a disaster location. Chaplains, Red Cross, police, transportation authorities began welcoming family members who had suffered losses in.

We finally were able to secure a car from Hertz (thank you Gold membership!) for the following morning. Three of us began the drive home the following morning.

I could go on and on but I will never forget that day. Boy, there really is no place like home!!!

Thanks to all the men and women who serve to protect our great land everyday. God Bless the USA! May we always remember.

When Should I Get More Involved In My Ill Or Aging Loved One's Life?

When assessing whether or not your ill or aging loved one needs help, use these 10 Caregiving Considerations.

1. Medical Conditions
2. Driving
3. Food/Nutrition
4. Hygiene
5. Behavior
6. Daily Task Performance
7. Medication
8. Finances/Financial Decisions
9. Mail (Solicitation Offers, Unpaid Bills, etc.)
10. Safety

If you notice these indications and others in your loved one, an in-home caregiver may be the proper solution. If not, perhaps our Direct Link Emergency Monitoring System may be an option. To receive further information about our services, feel free to contact us at (864) 848-1729 or http://www.homehelpers.cc/greer58306 . We would be more than happy to lend a helping hand to you and your loved one!

One Awesome Day!

Today has been a truly amazing day. Who would have thought turning 50 could be so much fun. What has been fun is hearing stories like "50 is the new 30" (I really like that one!), "50 is the new 40", "you are just a young thing" and "you are as young as you feel." Being priviledged to work with many different ages of client, I've realized to treasure each relationship and live each day to the fullest. So whether you're 50, 30, 80, or 65 here's wishing you a wonderful day for your birthday as well!

It continues to amaze me how we are allowed to make such differences is so many peoples lives. Timing for home care is critical and when it's needed, believe me it's needed. I'm grateful to have such wonderful caregivers who go above and beyond the call to deliver exceptional care to our clients. So today, I say THANKS!!

A Tough Week

Well, it's been a tough week at Home Helpers. We had to say good-bye to two of our great clients. One we had known for a long time. She will be missed terribly as she had such a contagious smile and love of life. The other we only knew a short while but became close to him and his family. We will keep these families and the caregivers who cared for this great people in our thoughts and prayers. Having to say good-bye is the part of the job we dislike the most but we treasure getting to know these families.

Personal Emergency Monitors - It's no laughing matter!

While many people may have joked about the familiar line “I’ve fallen and need help,” a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) is no laughing matter. Thousands of people depend on a PERS every day for increased confidence and peace of mind. Ideally, a person with a PERS will never have to rely on the system for assistance, but just in case, it is nice to know that help is only a button push away.

Many people who have made arrangements for a PERS have found the use of a personal system goes well beyond emergencies. If someone you know may welcome the peace of mind a PERS offers, we would appreciate the chance to tell them about Direct Link In-Home Emergency Monitoring and show them how our system works. We offer a free in-home consultation.

Likewise, if a person is fiercely independent and has avoided the suggestions or attempts of others to provide assistance, as we begin 2009, it may be worth another try. If or when an incident occurs, chances are the person involved will not be near a telephone to call for help. In fact, most accidents and health emergencies occur in the bathtub or late at night.

A personal emergency monitoring system can often be the deciding factor that enables a person to maintain his or her independence. In fact, a PERS may help minimize concerns and anxiety, and increase the feeling of safety and security. Studies indicate anxieties about falling often lead to people becoming less physically active. Having a PERS can help to bolster the confidence of a person as he or she moves about the home and yard.

Call us today at (864) 848-1729 to discuss this wonderful service for you or a loved one in our area!
